The Discipline Specific Awards allow you to develop your personal paddling and decision making skills in the craft and environment of your choice. Available in every craft and environment, the awards are based on your learning, encouraging you in your personal development. So whether your looking to progress your Freestyle skills, get into Polo or start your Coastal Sea Kayak paddling, the awards are for you
Aquatic Leisure runs training sessions for individuals, groups of up to 8 people, and organise's regular training courses including courses upon request to meet customers needs. One 2 One Coaching One 2 one coaching is provided for individuals looking to progress their personal paddling knowledge and skills, whether
its to be introduced to kayaking, to gain a paddling award, to practice that stroke your struggling to get to grips with, or to
help people build their confidence in another paddling discipline. Please get in touch to discuss your training

From January 2019 the British Canoeing Awards have changed from the Old Star Awards to the new Performance Awards
Touring Award Your Touring Award endorses your skill, judgement and decision making required to have a successful day on a river or (replaces the 3 star award) estuary. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your
award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with the Open Water
Touring Award holders.
Open Water Touring Award Your Open Water Touring Award endorses your judgement, decision making and expertise and requires a good (New award for 2019) understanding of touring on open water or estuaries. You should be confident planning and undertaking journeys with
winds up to force 4. On the sea you will be using sheltered areas, small bays, harbours and the upper reaches of some
suitable, slow moving estuaries during neap tides, with minimal possibility of being blown offshore. You will be happy
operating in force 3 wind (force 2 if the wind direction is offshore). Your confidence should be based upon both
proficiency in skills and a broad appreciation of your surroundings and the environmental context. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for independently building the experience and expertise associated with Multi Day Touring Award holders.
Multi Day Touring Award As a Multi-Day Touring Award holder, you will have the ability to apply your choices to an enjoyable multi-day trip on a
(New award for 2019) variety of waters including canals, lochs / lakes, estuaries and sections of rivers up to grade 2. Touring on open inland water with a potential fetch of up to 1000m and winds up to force 4(5). On the sea, you will be operating along simple
coastlines with easy landing throughout and minimal possibility of being blown offshore and no tidal races or over-falls.
Any swell will be no greater than 0.5m and winds not above Beaufort force 4 (or Beaufort force 3 if offshore)
The Touring Awards can be taken in touring or sea kayaks, sit-on-tops or canoes
Sea Kayak Award The Sea Kayak Award endorses your skill, judgement and the decision making required for a successful day on the sea.
(replaces 3 star sea award) You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on the sea, in winds up to and including force 3 and/or tides
up to 1 Knot, using sea kayaks or sit on tops, in tidal or non-tidal environments, with proficient skills to be in control
throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with
Coastal Sea Kayak Award holders.
Foundation Safety and Fundamentally this course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of craft. The objective is to teach simple and safe skills
Rescue Test that can be applied appropriately. The course aims to provide the student with the key safety & rescue skills required to
operate safely in a sheltered water environment and to be able to deal with common emergencies. These skills will then
form the basis of all safety and rescue training throughout the BCU Scheme.
The course has two purposes:
1. To provide the paddler with the necessary skills which will enable them to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
2. To provide the paddler with the appropriate rescue skills which can be used to help themselves and others in difficulty.
